Dev Blog 8: Taxiway v.2 & Passenger Pathfinding

November 1, 2015

A* Pathfinding

A* (A-star) is a best practice algorithm for pathfinding i games, which we decide to use for passengers and aircraft. It is an easy but still complex method to implement and is widely used. Basically it helps the passengers to find the quickest route to their destination (check-in, baggage claim etc.) without hitting any walls or objects. You can read more here: wiki. With this system in place passenger development process will now continue focusing on creating more complex aspects of the life of an ordinary passenger. We will keep you updated on any progess.

Taxiway Texture v.2

We have created new textures for the taxiways and by studying airports over the world with Google maps we have tried to find the right feel and look for the taxiways. The textures are not in any way final but mere a step forward and an improvement of the first mockup version. We do plan to hire a proper artist in the future to help us develop arts, sprites and textures, but for now we are sticking to what we can create with our skills. Please let us know what you think about the textures.

Financial System

We have started developing one of the more central systems in the game being the financial aspects which we want to put a lot of effort into. We want to build a simple, yet complex system where the player will have a variety of knobs and switches to impact the financial well-being on the airport.
